In January 2004 the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection) contacted us with a view to becoming one of the first companies to join the world’s only ‘No Animal Testing’ Pet Food Standard.
This is the first scheme of its kind for the pet food industry to enable consumers to identify and purchase pet food products that have not been tested on caged animals by the product manufacturers or the suppliers. The BUAV first exposed animal experimentation in the pet food industry in 2000, as you may remember from the national press, and since then there has been increasing consumer concern about the issue and growing interest in the availability of alternative pet food brands that have not been animal tested.
The ultimate aim of the BUAV is to end animal testing by encouraging companies and consumers to purchase non-animal tested products—and it is the only ‘seal of approval’ the BUAV will recommend to its supporters, the media and ethical customers.
For further information on the work of the BUAV you can look at their website www.buav.org Whenever we exhibit at Crufts or Discover Dogs, many people come to the stand and their very first question concerns this issue . We know that this is an important subject to many of our customers, and we have now completed the long and exhaustive process which results in Fromm Family Foods being recognised as a manufacturer of super premium food not tested on animals.
The BUAV feature approved companies on their new ‘pet food testing’ section of the website. They include Fromm Family Nutritionals in their quarterly Supporter Magazine.
